What is photography? The word literally means: writing with light. In Greek: photos = light and graphe = writing. I make photo’s, and I digitally edit my photos into abstract art. I make a lot more than I can show here. I often have more versions. Don’t hesitate to ask. You can always make an appointment to come and see me at my home, or I can share my screen with you during a Zoom meeting. My home used to be a shop so I also have a shop window. Everything can be ordered. A photo in large format on the wall, sleek on aluminum, looks beautiful in your interior and you will enjoy it for years. Prices depend on the format and medium on which the print is made. For example:
• 50X70 cm print with satin foil on aluminium + hanging system €300
• 100X70 cm print with satin foil on aluminium + hanging system €500
ABOUT ME
Born in 1957, after high school I went to study School Music at the Conservatory. I graduated with minors in Singing, Choral conducting, piano and oboe. I am active as a singer and conductor. In addition, I am also active as an addiction counselor.
As a photographer, I am self-taught. In the past, I only used a camera while on holiday. I often received compliments about my photography. Photography became a passion when I bought my first digital camera in 2004. I could make as many photo’s as I wanted. On my laptop, I immediately saw what I had done and learned from it. In the beginning I photographed with the Canon Powershot. I developed myself and my technique and found that with this type of camera I could not do what I wanted. Nowadays I use a Sony Alpha 7ii full-frame camera. Soon I also started taking abstract photos, for example close-up shots of tree bark. After that I started digitally editing both my abstract photos and other photos in Photoshop and other programs to turn them into abstract works. On this website you find both photography and abstract art.
DIGITAL ART
At first I was sometimes inspired by patterns in nature such as tree bark, water, ice etc. One night I was on the beach. The sun was low, the wind was blowing hard and it was almost low tide . Suddenly I made a whole series of abstract photos focusing entirely on the reflection of the low sun in the water the wet sand. The wind made patterns in the film of water on the sand. That was a turning point. From then on I started photographing everything that has a nice pattern or rhythm. Sometimes just the abstract photo is enough, more often I experiment with it in Photoshop with filters and merging. In the beginning, I only made symmetrical collages. Later I started to distort them again and make more a-symmetrical work. I also distort with other programs like Hyperbolic Tiling, a bit similar to fractals. This also affects my photography. While shooting, I regularly take into account what I want to do with that photo later.
PHOTOGRAPHY
I like to photograph landscapes, flowers, architecture and cloudy skies, especially at sunrise or sunset. I live in Haarlem and come to Amsterdam a lot, of course I also photograph there regularly. I also photograph when I travel. The interaction between sunlight and clouds, especially during sunrise and sunset, always fascinates me. Often I am at the beach in the evening hoping for a beautiful sky or sunset. The lower the sun is, the more beautiful the light often is. This is why I love coming to Finland.
